Calming the storm within

When was the last time you experienced a storm?

With all the rain we’ve had lately, it probably hasn’t been too long.

Jesus’ friends, most of them fishermen, were used to storms, even when they were in a boat.  In Mark 4, though, they were hit by one that frightened even them.  The waves threatened to swamp their vessel.

When they looked around, there was Jesus, taking a snooze.  A nap—with the waves pouring in over the sides!  They woke him up.  They didn’t ask him to stop the waves.  They said, “Don’t you care that we are perishing?”  How could you sleep through all this?  Don’t you care?

                He cared.

He spoke a word of peace and things returned to normal.  Then he reminded them to have faith in God, who doesn’t ever sleep.

When was the last time you experienced a storm in your soul?

May you hear God’s word of peace when you need it, to calm the storms in your soul.
